Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has revealed that Leroy Sane is not interested in extending his deal with the club after rejecting several offers fro a contract extension to his deal, which expires next summer.
City is interested in extending Sane’s deal by persuading the 24-year-old Germany winger to sign an extension, but he has turned it down. He has been linked with Bayern Munich for the past 12 months.
Speaking over the development, the former Barcelona coach, admitted that the German international wants to join another club. Guardiola is therefore unsure if he will leave this summer or next summer when his contract expires.
Sane, who joined the noisy neighbours from Schalke for £37m on a five-year deal in 2016, is yet to be in action for the club since suffering cruciate ligament damage during the Community Shield in August.
Guardiola further revealed that the club had sat with the 24-year-old winger “two or three times” about a new deal.
He noted that whenever a club offers a player a new deal, it shows that he is wanted. Guardiola lauded the young lad describing him as a nice player.
“He has a special quality. We want players who want to play with the club to achieve targets. He is a nice guy, and I love him so much. I have nothing against – but he wants another adventure.”
Sane to Bayern Munich?
With Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery leaving Bayern Munich last season, the likes of Serge Gnabry and some young players have been given a chance to explore their talent on the field for the Bundesliga giant.
But these young lads might falter at the big stage where it matters most. Sane is believed to want a move to Allianz Arena where he could nail down a starting shirt, which he couldn’t;t get at Man City.
Guardiola had preferred having Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero/Gabriel Jesus frontline most of the time. This could affect the chances of Sane again ahead of the Euros having missed out of the 2018 world cup squad.
Man City also has Bernardo Silva, who could also play from the middle of the pack and the flanks as well. It is reported that Sane might return to Germany this summer. Man City will be forced to sell him and at least recoup some money from the £37m spent to get him in the first place.
