The 2022 World Cup Qatar is an association football event in which the senior men’s national teams of 32 member nations across the globe compete for the ultimate trophy – the FIFA World Cup trophy.

It will be the 22nd edition of the tournament since it was first hosted in 1930 in Uruguay.

The tournament is the first to be hosted by an Arab nation and will take place from 20 November to 18 December 2022.

It will also be the last to have only 32 teams, as the next edition will feature 48 teams.

France are the defending champions of the tournament and have qualified for the competition, ready to defend the trophy they won four years ago in Russia.

For the first time, the tournament is not taking place in May, June, or July due to Qatar’s inclement weather conditions.

It will be hosted across 8 stadiums, with host country Qatar facing Ecuador for the opening match.

World Cup 2022 Qatar Qualifiers

The 2022 World Cup qualifiers took place from the 6th of June, 2019 to the 14th of June, 2022 which produced the 31 teams that joined Qatar in the World Cup.

It featured regional and continental competitions, including intercontinental competitions at the later stages.

The first match that was played in the qualifiers was between Mongolia and Brunei on 6th June 2019, while the last match was an intercontinental playoff between Costa Rica and New Zealand on 14th June, 2022.

A total of 2,424 matches was played, and 865 goals scored, with Ali Ahmed of United Arab Emirates emerging top-scorer with 14 goals during the World Cup 2022 Qatar qualifiers.

2022 World Cup Qatar Teams

Apart from Qatar, with automatic qualification to the tournament as the host country, countries that successfully qualified for the tournament include; Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands, England, Iran, USA, Wales, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland, France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia, Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia, Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

World Cup 2022 Qatar Groups

As usual 32 teams have qualified for the competition and they have been divided into eight groups – Group A to Group H. Each Group has four teams, with the Group winners and runners up qualifying to the next round of the competition.

World Cup 2022 Qatar Schedule

A total of 64 games will be played to decide the winner of the 2022 World Cup Qatar.

The Group stages of the competition will begin on Sunday November 20 and end on Friday, December 2.

The Round of 16 will start on Saturday, December 3, and end on Tuesday December 6.

Quarterfinals starts on Friday December 9, and ends on Saturday December 10. The Semifinals is Tuesday December 13 and Wednesday 14.

The third-place play off will take place on Saturday December 17, and the Final on Sunday, December 18.
