Inter Milan appears to have begun its summer transfer as the Nerrazzuri are reportedly set to bring in Brescia midfielder, Sandro Tonali, to the San Siro for €30m plus performance-related bonuses.

Sky Sport Italia reports that Tonali, who was also on the radar of top European clubs, which include Manchester United, Arsenal, Fiorentina, Barcelona, Napoli and PSG, was clear in his next move. Despite being a huge supporter of AC Milan, right from childhood, the 20-year-old will now link up with other young Italian players, which include Nicolo Barella, Stefano Sensi, and Alessandro Bastoni, after both parties reached an agreement.

In confirming the development, transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio also said a deal is close to completion between the two clubs.

Why Tonali chose Milan over other

Why chose the Nerazzurri despite growing up as a Milan supporter? Reports have it that the 20-year-old talented midfielder was impressed by Antonio Conte’s plan for the team. He was also impressed with the presence of Sensi, Nicolò Barella, and Esposito, who has been gaining some playing time in the club that is pushing for the Scudetto.

Tonali has one Serie A goal and five assists in 23 appearances to his credit in his debut season in the top-flight Italian campaign. His performance has earned him three senior caps for the Azzurri.

Although it was reported that Tonali had been valued €50m by Brescia President Massimo Cellino, their status on the log as their relegation seemed imminent coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, his transfer values dropped drastically, and the club has no option than to quickly cash on the young talent.

It was reported that a €30m deal, including numerous performance-related bonuses, is close between the two clubs.

Inter’s CEO, Beppe Marotta, had in an interview with Sky Sport Italia, spoke of having a blend of youths and experienced players in the squad when asked about Tonali.

He pointed out that the clubs can’t win titles with the young lads, adding that it’s even better if they are Italian, which he said would help the club’s economic and financial balance.

Inter will resume Serie Action against Sampdoria. A win will reduce the gap between them and Juventus topping the log to six points.
