Halloween 2022 came with a lot of packages and the football world got involved heavily as always. Just like in previous editions of the celebrations, several players did their best to look awesome.
The fact that professional players enjoy Halloween shouldn’t come as a surprise. They get to play a kid’s game for work instead of going to a dull job like the rest of us, and they also get to wear a small costume each time they walk the court, field, or ice.
Footballers got into the Halloween mood this year as in recent years, taking full advantage of the stylish celebration of the spooky season.
One of the things the 2022 Halloween signified was that the winter ball was officially out. The one, you know. The yellow ball is once again being thrown across the fields as the clocks reset. like it ought to. How’s that for some World Cup mania?
If we were to look at things from the standpoint of the WWE Road to WrestleMania, Halloween more importantly signifies that we are now formally on the road to the World Cup.
However, a few football players decided to get into the spirit of the occasion by donning the good, the bad, and the ugly of fancy dress rather than letting the holiday pass by without a trick or a treat.
Halloween 2022
Halloween or Hallowe’en, also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a holiday celebrated on October 31, the night before All Hallows’ Day, a Western Christian holiday.
It marks the start of Allhallowtide, the season of the liturgical year in which saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the departed are commemorated.
One theory holds that many Halloween traditions were inspired by Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic feast Samhain, which is believed to have paganic roots.
Some go even further and assert that the early Church may have converted Samhain and its eve to Christianity as All Hallow’s Day.
Let’s have a look at the Halloween Costumes from 2022 from some footballers’ perspectives:
Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland created a humorous graphic on Twitter using several jokes about himself to celebrate Halloween.
With a tweet wishing his Twitter followers a “Happy Haalandween!” and a pretty inventive graphic depicting himself sitting over a plate of lasagne in half-cyborg form à la Terminator, Haaland got into the eerie spirit of Halloween.
Casemiro
Casemiro is a cultured man. Has his family on board when it comes to his love of vintage, uplifting horror.
He will chop you to pieces if you criticize his amateurish costume. Nice variety from the bunch all around.
Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw, a defender for Manchester United and England, was sighted with his wife and children, who were all wearing Halloween costumes.
Kalvin Philips
The former Leeds United player Kalvin Phillips, an England international, too wore an eye-catching suit. He co-starred as Sandy and Danny from the Grease ensemble with his girlfriend Sasha Attwood.
Kyle Walker
Then, for something even more outrageous, Kyle Walker (left) and his friends dressed up as the Spice Girls, with the Manchester City and England right-back flaunting an outfit and hairstyle inspired by Mel B.
Patrice Evra
Patrice Evra’s Batman Halloween outfit, which included his own Batmobile, had his fellow football players in fits of laughter.
Batman, aka Patman, who used to play for Manchester United, posted a video of himself dancing in a parking lot on Instagram.
Evra cartwheels off the Batmobile’s hood and starts to shuffle, showing off the agility of his younger self.
Evra laughs loudly and jumps from side to side while yelling “Go Patman!” The Frenchman’s social media video was well-liked by football enthusiasts.
Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis
Mewis of Gotham FC and Kerr of Chelsea both wore traditional attire as they joined the rest of the Chelsea team this past weekend.
Sure, it’s a little textbook, but they push it to the utmost maximum. Very refined material. Also posing is Stern. Good work.
Mario Gotze
Gotze loses some points for not choosing an appropriately spooky attire, but who does these days?
Halloween is all about creativity and enjoyment. This checks both boxes and the healthy one. Mario the Superstar with his son. Brilliant.
Jese Rodriguez
It’s not terrible, but Jese Rodriguez and his wife’s behavior is undoubtedly unacceptable.
We won’t use any of the more direct comparisons to what they’ve actually accomplished.
The only thing that needs to be said is that his one season in Stoke would have been much more terrifying than this.
Diogo Dalot
Diogo Dalot is getting into the Halloween spirit by wearing a mariachi skeleton from the Day of the Dead.
In honor of Day of the Dead, his partner Claudia Lopes was costumed as Catrina.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
Gianluigi Donnarumma proudly displayed his beautiful fiancée while donning a terrifying Halloween outfit.
The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper posted a photo of himself dressed as an escape hospital patient with a blade and covered in blood on Instagram.
His stunning 24-year-old fiancée Alessia Elefante, a beautiful brunette, was standing next to him.
Club side too are not left out as some clubs took to social media to celebrate the day. See some of their reactions below:
