Arsenal Football Club are ready to offer French defender William Saliba a new contract after an impressive form since returning from Olympic Marseille on loan.
After Arsenal signed the defender from Saint-Etienne for £21 million as a youngster, he went on loan several times to Marseille, OGC Nice, and Saint Etienne due to the number of competitions in the Arsenal defense.
Alongside Gabriel in center defense, he has started every game in the top division this season, and has subsequently garnered high accolades for his work.
He has broken into the French national team, winning seven caps for his country. Saliba is most likely to make it to the France’s World Cup list as he is highly rated by the team’s handlers.
He has continued his stellar play this season while wearing an Arsenal jersey, participating in all 12 Premier League games and adding two goals and an assist.
In 17 games across all competitions this season, Saliba has assisted Arsenal in keeping eight clean sheets with only 14 goals allowed.
Though Saliba contract runs out next summer, Arsenal have the right to extend the contract beyond next year.
The North London side had gone with an improved contract but no agreement had been made between the two parties yet.
Arsenal are looking forward to tying Saliba down after they offered Gabriel a five years deal. Arsenal technical director Edu wants to work with Saliba as long as he is fit and does not suffer a drop in form.
Saliba is attracting interest from European big guns who are ready to put a large amount just to get him next season. Hence, tying him down to a long term contract is Arsenal’s priority.
