Chelsea FC, under the new club owner Todd Boehly, is on the move to bring in Graham Potter as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel after the German boss was sacked this morning, September 7, 2022, after Dinamo Zagreb defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Champions League opener.

The Blues, under the previous manager Thomas Tuchel have been showing off a lukewarm like performance despite spending over £250 million on singing new players this summer.

The new owners took over the ownership of Stamford Bridge at the cost of £ 4.25 billion from Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich earlier this year.

Having spent such an amount of money on purchasing the club; including spending an additional £250 million on bringing new players into the team, it’s expected that Chelsea should be above other clubs in this era but the reverse has been the case.

Meanwhile, Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali seem not to be patient enough and wanted no more failure, having analyzed Tuchel’s 100 games as Chelsea’s manager and discovered a diminishing movement of 24 goals conceded in the first 50 games in contrast to 53 goals conceded in the second 50 matches decided to retrench him from saddling the team.

The 48-year-old Brighton manager Graham Potter has evolved as the Blues’ favorite and a better replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

Graham Stephen Potter, born on the 20th of May 1975 is the head coach of Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

While managing Brighton, Potter became the first ever Brighton manager to defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford, after The Seagulls trashed United 2–1 in the opening game of the 2022–23 Premier League season.

Potter’s side beat Leicester 5–2 at Falmer Stadium; the first time Brighton scored five goals in a Premier League fixture.

Shortly after the Tuchel saga, Danny Mills, former Manchester City player publicly admonished Graham Potter to think carefully about taking the call to move to Chelsea.

Mills urged Potter that the Blues are currently a ‘snake pit’.

Mills said: “I’d be very wary,
“It is a huge step up in terms of Champions League football, those types of things. We all understand that.

“But it seems to be a little bit of a snake pit at the moment.”

Mill implies sacking Tuchel at the wee time to the start of a tournament where new players have not grasped the playing style of the club, is not a good one.

He said: “Chelsea have all those new players coming in, lots of different opinions, the ownership structure – we don’t know who is sat at the top of that or who is working under who or who is in charge.”

Even though Mill warned Potter against the job, it doesn’t mean the English tactician is not capable but Mill intended to prevent him from embarking on a slippery journey.

“Potter is a very good manager, a very good coach who is highly regarded,” Mills remarked.

At the time of publishing this report, Brighton has permitted Chelsea’s co-owner, Todd Boehly to discuss with Graham Potter the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

It has been reported that Boehly has started discussing with Potter and an announcement might be made before Chelsea’s game against Fulham on Saturday if the ongoing negotiation is successful.

Apart from Graham Potter, Chelsea are considering the appointment of former PSG and Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino, or former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane.

“Chelsea are preparing the contract proposal for Graham Potter but the main priority will be discussing a long-term project. He’s the favorite — while Pochettino is now waiting for Chelsea to decide”, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted.
