Martin Odegaard, the new Gunners skipper has revealed that he tried to convince Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s newest signing, to join him at Arsenal.
Arteta’s side despite failing to sign Erling Haaland, the former Borussia Dortmund’s prolific striker, have successfully signed some other amazing players like Gabriel Jesus, former Manchester City forward, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Fabio Viera and Marquinhos this summer. These are great players that would hopefully lift the Gunners in the ongoing season and beyond.
Martin Odegaard, the Norwegian captain and teammate of Haaland on the national level led the Gunners in their opening match of the Premier League which was against Crystal Palace, on Friday August 5, 2022. The match ended 2-0 in favor of Arsenal.
The Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard has revealed how he tried to get the new Cityzens’ striker, Erling Haaland to join him at the Emirates. The newly-appointed captain would need to step into the shoes of the ex-captains and put his leadership qualities to use.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, despite the efforts of their captain to lure his Norwegian team mate over to their side, he chose otherwise and signed with Manchester City. Erling Haaland must have reasoned that his chances of success in his debut season in the EPL are much better with the current champions of the league than with the North London side.
While discussing the expected influence that Haaland would have in the EPL, Martin Odegaard revealed his attempt to truncate Manchester City’s plan to get his Norwegian team mate to the Premier League.
“We speak almost every day, we have a group on Snapchat with some of the guys from the team so we speak there a lot,” Martin Odegaard told TalkSport.
“He’s a great guy, great player and I think unfortunately for us he will be a great signing for Manchester City! For sure he will score some goals.
“I wish him all the best except for when we play them. It will be fun to see him in England.
“When all the Arsenal fans were posting pictures of him and me I would send it to him. I tried but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough… he just laughed.”
The Norwegian forward scored a goal in his first apperance for The Cityzens of Manchester City against a more familiar side, Bayern Munich to the thrill of the fans. It is expected that with some training, the former Borussia Dortmund’s marksman would run riot as he did at his former side.
The Norwegian Midfielder, Martin Odegaard has been appointed as the new skipper of the Gunners ahead of the 2022/2023 Premier League season. The former Real Madrid player joined the Emirates on loan before he signed a permanent deal with the Gunners.
Martin Odegaard took up the mantle after the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who joined The Catalan Giants, FC Barcelona, earlier this year.
