It’s back again. The 2022/2023 Premier League season kicks off in a matter of hours and it promises to be all that we have all been anticipating and more.

Ahead of the first game of the season, we take a look at 4 curious questions certain to raise some eyebrows as the season progresses.

1. How will the newly promoted teams cope in 2022/2023 Premier League season?

2022/2023 Premier League season: Answers to four curious questions ahead of the season

Nottingham Forest.
With multiple new signings, forest are poised for a survival season after 12 years away from the top flight of English football but we’ve seen this before after Fellow newcomers, Fulham brought in a whole host of new transfers and still went down at the end of the season which indicates that Forest’s gamble on their summer recruitment may just not reap the desired rewards.

Club record signing, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Jesse Lingard top the recruiting list whilst Dean Henderson joins on loan from Manchester United. Steve Cooper also bolstered his squad with the addition of £17m, Neco Williams, from Liverpool and he’s not done there as he said: “I think there will be more ins and outs, it’s not a straightforward process in bringing a player in, I don’t know in terms of numbers.”

On the surface, Forest is prepared to take the league by storm. Player integration and adaptation with the best of the best in the Premier League will have to come sooner rather than later.

Fulham
2021/2022 championship winners breezed through the championship with star striker, Alexander Mitrovic breaking the goal-scoring record in the process.

Former Hull and Everton manager Marco Silva will be looking to stop the up and down sequence of Fulham in the English league pyramid.

Manor Solomon could emerge as a shrewd move for the cottagers. The Israel international signed from FC Shakhtar Donetsk has a lot of potentials to positively stun the Craven Cottage faithful.

Other new arrivals include; Bernd Leno, Andreas Perreira, João Palinha, and Kevin Mbabu. Premier League fans can look forward to a refurbished stadium overlooking the river Thames and of course, Alexander Mitrovic.

Bournemouth
Former Fulham manager, Scott Parker has curiously admitted that his side may not be ready for their opener against Aston Villa. This is largely due to the lack of incomings at The Vitality stadium as he mentioned: “We’re going into the biggest league in the world and we worked tirelessly last year to be in this position. We need to bring a fighting spirit and a real determination on the weekend if we want to get something out of the game.”

Parker however has Premier League experience albeit brief hence, the Cherries will be galvanized by the Englishman as soon as kick off on Saturday.

2. What is the ceiling for Newcastle FC in the 2022/2023 Premier League season?

New Money Newcastle is tipped to break into the top 6 but, will they be able to do that in the new season? Realistically, they will have a better start to the season than last year under Steve Bruce who went winless in the first nine games of the season.

Fast forward to the January window, under former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, the additions of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, and Dan Burn coupled with the summer additions of Sven Botman and Nick Pope, these names aren’t the typical household names that fans would have expected after the takeover, it does, however, show that they are ready to do business that Mike Ashley wasn’t willing to do.

Make no mistake about it, the Magpies are now under pressure to deliver. The St James’ Park crowd has always had huge expectations and new money can very well aid them in meeting their expectations. If they can just rub shoulders with the likes of West Ham and maybe Leicester city before the mid-season break, then, the hype will build up as we get to the latter part of the season, and maybe, just maybe the tide will turn at Tyneside.

We’ll keep our eye out on the negotiations and bids with Leicester for Midfielder, James Maddison.

3. Five substitutes, good or bad?

Finally, we shall now get to see a maximum of five substitute players available to come into a single Premier League game and it’s exciting to see this rule now being implemented in the English top flight permanently after its initial use during the COVID-19 restart.

The argument against implementing this rule has always been that bigger teams with bigger squads will have a slightly unfair advantage. However, with the World Cup later this year, the players have to be given utmost priority.

4. How much impact will the World Cup have on the 2022/2023 Premier League season?

It’s going to feel weird seeing international football in November, but, all teams will have played sixteen league games and the remaining games will come between December and May 2023.

International breaks are normal and most international games during the break aren’t as intense. This will be the complete opposite as the top teams will be vying for World Cup supremacy which directly translates to a lot of high-stakes games from now till the end of the year.

On the flip side, football fans will be saturated with a lot of mouth-watering football action. A few players including Mo Salah and Haaland will not be going to the World Cup so they’ll be more focused on games for their respective clubs and they won’t have a lot of fatigue as they’ll be a bit more rested by the time other stars return to domestic action.
