Barcelona agreed a deal to sign Robert Lewandowski on a three-year contract this summer. Before his exit from Bayern, Lewandowski had just one year remaining on his Bayern Munich contract and had told the German champions he would not sign a new one with them as he’s not interested in playing for Bayern.
Robert Lewandowski was officially presented as a Barcelona player in Miami. He made his first debut for his new club in preseason matches in the USA and is preparing for a big welcome at Camp Nou on Friday, ahead of the first game of the LaLiga season against Rayo Vallecano on Aug. 13.
However, his exit from Bayern; where he scored 344 goals in 375 appearances came to limelight as he publicly clashed with the club over his choice to move on.
Recently, Lewandowski admitted that his departure from Bayern was one of political display and wants to appreciate his Bayern fans for the love shown to him during the long years he spent at the German side.
However, Bayer Munich sport director, Hassan Salihamidzic blows hot as he hits out at the ‘bulls**t’ claims that Bayern’s interest in Erling Haaland was to blame for his departure. Lewandowski claimed that the Bundesliga champions tried to find any excuse to sell him this summer.
Lewandowski’s comments annoys Bayern sport director
Lewandowski’s speech have drawn a frustrated reply from Bayern sporting director Hassan Salihamidzicas:
“I don’t understand.., my father always taught me that when you leave, never close the door behind. Robert is headed in the direction of doing exactly that. It’s something Bayern does not accept.”
Nevertheless, Robert Lewandowski went to Bayern Munich training ground this morning, August 2, to bid the club and his fans a warm-hearted farewell.
On joining Barcelona, he had an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Cristiana Alexander where he was asked whether he was ready for the new chapter in his football career.
In his response, Lewandowski said: “Well, I have to say that I’m very happy to be here, to be a part of Barcelona… It has been 10 or 12 days, out here in the U.S., so everything has been extremely fast and quick, but, with my experience, it is a little bit easier to adapt to the team, and every day I try to adapt and be a part of the team.”
On why he chose to move to La Liga, Lewandowski noted: “I was always dreaming to play in LaLiga. I know that my time in Bayern Munich was amazing, and I will be always thankful for the guys, for the club, what they did for me, because I won everything with Bayern Munich, and after 12 years playing in Bundesliga playing in Germany, I knew that it was time to try something new. A new challenge.”
