Barcelona have announced that they have sold Barca Studios to power their NFT project and other strategic communication systems such as audiovisualls, block chain and Web 3 strategy.

In a statement on the club’s website, the Spanish giants clarified that the decision to sell out a part of the studio was finalized by the club’s General Assembly meeting which was held on October 23.

According to the club, only 24.5% of the club’s studio will be sold out to Socios.com at an amount estimated to be running into millions of euros

“FC Barcelona have cleared the air that 24.5% of the club’s studios will be sold to socio.com a the sum of 100 million euros to help the club push its audiovisual, web 3 a and NFT strategy.,” the club said in a statement.

The statement went on to ground the decision to carry out the sale in line with the resolution of the club’s General Assembly held on October 23.

“The decision to proceed with the sale has been the outcome of the club’s General Assembly meeting,” they clarified.

Barcelona’s Perenial Financial Woes Continue

Since the onset of Covid 19, the Spanish giants have been trapped in a series of financial woes. Financial insolvency coupled with strict La Liga Fairplay rules resulted in the loss of one their legendary playmaker Lionel Messi to PSG.

The Blaugrana are also facing similar challenge with regard to Frenkie De Jong. They have reportedly urged the former Ajax star to accept a pay cut if he wants to stay at Camp Nou. They are also said to be owing the player an unpaid $17m wage.

The Frenkie De Jong impasse at Camp Nou have revealed further cracks and vulnerability of the 2008 UEFA Champions League winners. Barcelona President Joan Laporta have asserted that they are not ready to sell the Dutch international when addressing the press.

However, sources close to the Catalan club have claimed that he Blaugrana are looking for alternatives to sell out Frenkie De Jong to offset their financial woes. They have reportedly reach an agreement with Manchester United to sell the player. The catalans have reportedly attempted to push the $17m owed De Jong to Manchester United; a move that was rejected by the Old Trafford negotiation team.

Also, allegations of extortionist tactics have been raised against the Barcelona management. Former Manchester United player and football pundit, Gary Neville had urged De Jong to take legal action against the Catalans. Gary Neville wondered how Barcelona could expend a huge amount of cash on the 2022 transfer window but owed the former Ajax star $17m.

Although claiming financial bankruptcy and prodding De Jong to accept a paycut if he wants to stay at Barcelona, the Catalans are one of the top spenders on the transfer market this summer with big cash signings such as Franck Kessie, Robert Lewandowski, Kounde, and Lewandowski.
