French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign five-times Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo because there’s no room for him in their star-studded squad.
According to multiple sources, Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer because he wants to compete for trophies especially the UEFA Champions League. The new development has slowed down Erik ten Hag’s plans for next season and the Portuguese is currently not with the club for pre-season games.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave, few clubs can afford his huge £500,000-a-week salary. Most clubs are having bad financial issues but Paris Saint-Germain is one of those clubs that can afford to sign him this summer.
However, the club rejected an offer from the players’ agent Jorge Mendes after he met with Paris Saint-Germain’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Jorge Mendes have a good relationship and they reportedly had a meeting together in which Mendes offered Cristiano Ronaldo to PSG.
The French Ligue 1 champions believe that they will struggle to pay the Portuguese salaries and there’s no position in front for him as they already have Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar Jr.
Also, the club does not see him as a good signing this summer, with PSG entering a new era following a hierarchical change after agreeing on new terms with Kylian Mbappe.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who joined PSG in 2021 and has already been sacked after spending one year with the club.
They have now appointed Christopher Galtier as their new manager and the former OGC Nice head coach wants to play with a back three – making it difficult to accommodate both Mbappe, Messi, and Neymar at the same time.

So signing Cristiano Ronaldo now would only make it more difficult to select a starting lineup. Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation appears to be more complicated after Bayern Munich turned down the chance to sign him and Chelsea are now concerned about him fitting into the team.
Recently, Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag reacted to the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad for the pre-season games, stressing that the 37-year-old forward is not for sale.
The Dutchman said: ‘We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him. Cristiano is not for sale. He is in our plans and we want success together.’
According to Erik ten Hag, he’s not sure if Cristiano Ronaldo would join the team in Asia but he knows that his absence is for the moment.
Since Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich have now rejected Ronaldo and Chelsea are yet to make up their mind over the possibility of signing him, what should be the next step for Ronaldo?
