Former Arsenal player Jack Wilshere declared his retirement from football at the young age of 30 after leaving Danish club Aarhus.
Wilshere was predicted to become the next captain of England, but despite his incredible talent as a center midfielder and promising early development, he struggled to stand out at Arsenal due to a string of injury issues.
He made 197 appearances for the Gunners, but ought to have played many more for the team, having played for them for ten seasons in his professional career after joining his favorite north London club at the age of nine.
Wilshere joined the Danish Superliga team, Aarhus, at the beginning of this year, but before he announced his retirement after just five months, fans feared the worst for him and his football career.
In a lengthy post on social media, Wilshere expressed his regret for the “difficult moments” he had to go through after leaving Arsenal and struggling to prove his talent at Bournemouth and West Ham United.
He also stated his pain at seeing his career “slip away.” Wilshere wrote: ‘Today I am announcing my retirement from playing professional football. It has been an unbelievable journey filled with so many incredible moments and I feel privileged to have experienced all that I did during my career.
“From being the little boy kicking a ball around in the garden to captaining my beloved Arsenal and playing for my country at a World Cup. I have lived my dream.”
After making the shocking revelation on this Instagram page, the 30-year-old is believed to be getting ready for a coaching career and could end up at Arsenal’s under-18 team.
Wilshere reserved special respect for Arsenal and recognized Arsene Wenger, Pat Rice, and Boro Primorac for their contributions to his development. He vowed to “always be a Gunner” and thanked the club for their support and encouragement during his ups and downs. The former England national team player will have his first job as a coach with his childhood club, Arsenal.
The Arsenal U-18 team lost their coach Dan Micciche after he joined Under-23s coach Kevin Betsy at Crawley Town. The London club has since been in search of a new head coach and Jack Wilshere is the favorite candidate to fill the position.
Jack Wilshere made a total of 34 appearances for England throughout his career with two goals, however, he was among the most valuable players on the team then but injuries limited his playing time. His latest days with the Three Lions team were during the Euro 2016 competition when Roy Hodgson picked him even though he played just three times for Arsenal that season.
