English Premier League giants Liverpool are set to lose their top striker Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich as the Senegalese forward underwent medical at Bayern Munich ahead of his permanent move to the German Bundesliga giants.
Multiple sources have revealed that Mane has already completed his medical and the deal will be completed in the coming days.
Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern Munich is worth around €41 million (£35m/$43m) as Liverpool and the German club have sealed all the loose ends on their parts.
Recall that the Senegalese captain joined Liverpool six years ago from Southampton and has established himself as one of the best players at the club.
But he revealed ahead of the UEFA Champions League final in May 2022 that he wants to move to a new club ahead of next season. He is on the verge of making that desire a reality.
Mane has one year left on his contract with Liverpool and recently rejected a contract renewal. Although Bayern Munich hasn’t completed the deal, Bayern director Hasan Salihamidzic is excited to welcome Mane to the club.
“Sadio is at the peak of his career, at a great age, is in great shape and he’s greedy for titles – he’s at exactly the right club,” he told Bild. “We’re all proud and happy that such a world star comes to FC Bayern. Particularly because he was fired up for Bayern from the first minute.
“That means a lot to all of us – to me, the coaching team, the whole club. It’s wonderful that we convinced such a player for our club.”
Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 and was a vital member of one of the world’s best-attacking groups, alongside Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and more recently Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.
Under Jurgen Klopp, the Senegalese forward scored 120 goals in 269 appearances while also winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
He’s also had success on the international stage, with Senegal winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021.
Sadio Mane could be a replacement for Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski who’s set to leave the club this summer.
Lewandowski has been Bayern Munich’s goal machine for years but has made it known that he wants to leave the German champions. The Poland captain could be heading to Barcelona but other clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him.
Meanwhile, former Bayern Munich defender Sammy Kuffor has admitted that he wants to see Sadio Mane in Bayern Munich colors. Kuffor believes that Mane is a special player and can adapt to the German league.
“I would be more than glad to have him in a Bayern Munich shirt because he is so special,” Kuffour said during an interview with Bundesliga official Kwamena Odum in Accra.
“If you see the way he plays his football, he can also adapt to the German league because when you play in the Premier League, you can adapt everywhere. So, I am praying and crossing my fingers that Bayern Munich will get him.”
