A former agent of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski claimed that the Polish icon avoided a move to England not because of the rain, as he had previously joked, but because he was ‘afraid’ of not matching his goal total in Germany.

Last month, the 10-time Bundesliga champion boldly revealed that his Bayern Munich career was “finished,” piquing the interest of many European powerhouses, including Barcelona, PSG, and Chelsea, who reportedly entered the race on Thursday.

Since 2010, Lewandowski has scored almost 300 top-flight goals in Germany and has been the focus of transfer rumors, particularly with links to the Premier League.

The Polish international has turned down offers from English clubs on several occasions, joking that he couldn’t live with the unpredictable weather.

But, according to his former agent Cezary Kucharski, Robert Lewandowski was more concerned about his goal tally dwindling.

‘I always heard Robert give a childish explanation that it rains so much in England,’ he explained to German TV channel Sport 1.

‘But I think the real reason was that he didn’t think he could be as efficient as in Germany. Robert was really afraid of that.’

Chelsea is apparently interested in signing Lewandowski ahead of next season, so a move to the Premier League might happen this summer.

The 33-year-old might provide Thomas Tuchel with a viable substitute for Romelu Lukaku, who has been linked with a return to Inter after his unsuccessful £97.5 million move to Chelsea last August.

PSG and Barcelona are also after his signature, but according to Mundo Deportivo, Lewandowski prefers a move to Spain, where he has already signed a three-year contract earning £175,000 per week with Barca as part of a £27 million agreement.

The ‘deal’ was thrown into disarray when La Liga president Javier Tebas blocked the trade due to Barcelona’s financial woes.

After a crucial meeting on Thursday, the Spanish giants were given permission to sell 49.9% of Barcelona Licensing and Merchandising, which is expected to raise at least €200 million.

‘My era at Bayern is over. I don’t see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore’, Robert Lewandowski was quoted as saying.

‘Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don’t want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don’t stop me.’
