Arsenal have launched a bid for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, who is valued at £50 million and reportedly wants to go to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Mikel Arteta is looking for a new striker after letting Alexandre Lacazette leave on a free transfer after his contract expired. Recall that after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona in January, no replacement was brought in, which means that the Gunners need at least one top-class striker.

Hence, since the summer transfer window opened, Jesus has been regularly reported in the media as Arteta’s top target, and many sources have claimed that Arsenal have made an official bid for the South American striker.

Manchester City wants £50 million for Jesus, but Arsenal is ‘increasingly confident’ that a deal can be reached after formally expressing their interest.

Since Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, it was expected that the club might miss out on the 25-year-old Brazilian forward, who has recently been offered to Champions League playing clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham.

As it stands, Jesus’ contract at the Etihad Stadium will soon expire, and is unlikely to sign an extension, therefore £50 million sounds excessive for the forward. So a deal within the range of £40 million could scale through.

That would be a fantastic deal for a player of his talent. Jesus may not be the prolific goal-scorer that some fans believe Arsenal requires, but he has a lot of potential and is one of the hardest-working attackers in the game, so he’ll be a perfect fit for Arteta’s approach.

Last season, Jesus scored 13 goals and added 12 assists in all competitions for City. The good news is that he can play everywhere in the front three which will make Jesus a wonderful addition to any squad.

Arteta knows Jesus well enough from their time together at City, and that relationship will be a major deciding factor for Jesus to join Arsenal this summer.

Eddie Nketiah, who will come second to Jesus next season, has signed a new contract with Arsenal, and the Gunners are optimistic about landing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City. So it appears that Jesus and Tielemans will be Arsenal’s major signings in the summer transfer window.

In the coming season, Arsenal would be looking forward to fighting for a place in the Champions League spot after missing out to neighbors Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners had a good season under Mikel Arteta but it didn’t end how they wanted, they failed to grab a Champions League spot.
