Christian Eriksen has stated that he will take his time deciding on his future move. He is set to be a free agent in the coming weeks if he doesn’t accept Brentford’s contract extension offer.
Last June, the Danish international suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, but he returned to football in January with Brentford, scoring a goal and providing four assists in 11 matches to keep the team in the Premier League.
His outstanding six-month stay in west London has piqued curiosity, with Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur all willing to capture him this summer.
Brentford have also reportedly offered the Danish player a long-term contract to extend his stay with the club, but the in-demand playmaker is yet to respond.
While he has been very busy with Nations League games in recent weeks, Eriksen has insisted that he would not be pressured into deciding his future at the club level.
‘No, and they know that too,’ Christian Eriksen answered when he was asked whether he was under pressure to sign a new club deal after Denmark’s 2-0 win over Austria on Monday, as per Bold.dk.
‘There are many criteria and many different things inside such a decision. Sometimes it goes fast in football, other times a little slower. You are not in control of it yourself. I have to make the best decision and not rush anything through.’
‘My phone stays on, but I also know my agent well enough to know that he only calls if there’s something exciting.’
United have been keeping an eye on Eriksen’s situation at Brentford and are planning a move for the playmaker, with Erik ten Hag a fan. The Red Devils are also considering a deal for Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona.
Spurs also want Eriksen to return to White Hart Lane, where he would play for a second time under Antonio Conte, having previously played for the Italian at Inter Milan before suffering cardiac arrest.
Tottenham will also compete in the Champions League next season, which might offer them an advantage in luring Eriksen, who has expressed an interest in returning to the competition.
United, on the other hand, can still hope to sign him after he stated that playing in the Champions League isn’t a requirement.
‘I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision,’ Eriksen told Viaplay earlier this year.
‘I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.’
