Manchester United captain and England football team defender, Harry Maguire sees nothing wrong in England’s recent poor performance in the ongoing Nations League.

The English defender had to defend England’s coach Gareth Southgate after the Three Lions recorded another draw against Italy. The 0-0 draw leaves them with just one goal after three games which came from a penalty from Harry Kane in the game against Germany.

This means that they have played their first three Nations League games without a win and they sit at the bottom of the group. The English fans were left disappointed after the uninspiring display by their men’s national team.

On his part, Harry Maguire said nothing is wrong with their recent run of performance. Maguire stressed that their style of play got them to the semi-finals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The expensive Manchester United defender made this known during an interview with BBC Radio Five Live.

When asked about the situation with coach Southgate, Harry Maguire said: “His record over the last four years speaks for itself – when you play at the highest level there’s pressure and scrutiny and criticism, and every game that you don’t win there will always be criticism,”.

“The last few games we haven’t scored enough goals but we got to a World Cup semi-final playing this way and we were a penalty shoot-out away from winning a Euros in our home country which would’ve been one of the greatest moments this country has ever seen.

“Let the football do the talking – everyone gets behind us for the World Cup and keep pushing us, we’re doing our best to improve.

“We’ve shown there’s still areas to improve and if we want to lift the World Cup we have to strive to improve and every day that we’re together we have to aim for that because we want to set high standards and the next one is to lift the trophy.”

Harry Maguire’s comments showed that the England team is behind their manager as they prepare for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Before now, coach Gareth Southgate noted that a lack of precision around the 18-yard box is the reason why his team is not scoring from open play.

The Three Lion’s next game will be against Hungary at home and they hope to get a win. Most people believe that this is the English golden generation squad and so much is expected from them.
