Shakira and Gerard Pique have officially ended their ranking relationship after a rumor of infidelity went public on the first of June 2022. They confirmed their break-up via a statement on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
Shakira and Gerard Pique who met each other for the first time during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa have been dating since 2011. Despite being together for more than 11 years, they failed to officially tie the knot.
However, the lengthy relationship had produced two beautiful children – Milan born on 22 January 2013 in Barcelona, and Sasha born on January 2015 in the same city.
Though the age difference between Shakira and Gerard Pique is 10 years, their relationship has been very cordial as the media hardly had any scandalous news about their love affair until recently.
Futballnews has reported that 45-year-old Shakira caught her 35-year-old lover cheating on her with another woman. Due to that, the FC Barcelona defender had to move out of the mansion he, Shakira, and their two children have been staying for over 8 years.
It was also reported that while Shakira and Gerard Pique temporarily went their separate ways, the footballer was seen partying with friends in the company of women.
Amid that, Shakira teamed up with 29-year-old Puerto Rican musician, Rauw Alejandro, to release a song titled: ‘Te Felicito’ which talked about cheating and unwillingness to forgive.
In a part of the song, the Colombian superstar sang: “I don’t buy that cheap philosophy, I’m sorry, I don’t ride that motorcycle anymore; I can’t stand two-faced people; I used to put my hands on fire for you and you treat me like one more of your whims; your wound didn’t open my skin, but it opened my eyes.”
When the fans of Shakira and Gerard Pique thought the whole reports about a crack in the relationship would end in peace, the lovers announced the end of the relationship.
In a joint statement the couple released during the weekend, the lovers confirmed that they had to go their separate ways for the good of their children.
The statement read: “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our utmost priority, we request respect for (our) privacy.”
Aside from the relationship issue, Shakira has had to battle, the 45-year-old singer has been battling a fraud scandal in Spain. Spanish court documents indicted her of committing tax fraud.
Spanish prosecutors claimed that Shakira defrauded the Spanish tax office out of 14.5 million euros on income earned between 2012 and 2014.
The prosecutors claimed that the Colombian singer relocated to Spain in 2011 after she started dating the Spanish footballer. Despite moving to Spain in 2011, she continued to pay taxes to the Bahamas, where she used to reside. But her defense lawyers are insisting that Shakira moved to Spain permanently in 2015.
Hence, as the Colombian singer is battling to cope without Gerard Pique, she will continue her legal battle with Spanish prosecutors.
