Sevilla legend Jesus Navas will leave Sevilla at the end of the season but will continue his career elsewhere.
His departure will mark the end of an era with the Sevill-based outfit after what has been a heroic 17-year career with the club.
Sevilla confirmed the legendary right-back will leave the club at the end of the season in a club statement.
Save for his short spell with Manchester City from 2013 to 2017, Navas has played for Sevilla for the rest of his career after graduating from the club’s Academy in 2003.
It is understood Jesus Navas had wanted to stay put with Sevilla, having nurtured his career with the club through his teenage days but have to leave as the club refused to renew his contract.
While Sevilla’s decision to part ways with Jesus Navas is unclear, it is believed Navas’ age played a role in the club’s decision.
Navas clocked 38 on November 1, 2023, and was set to celebrate his 39th birthday after the end of the current campaign.
Ideally, footballers normally call time on their careers between the ages of 34 and 36. But it appears Navas is not ready to give in soon despite his age.
However, he will have to continue his career away from Seville following the club’s decision to part ways with him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Jesus Navas is open to a new chapter in his career after his heroic spell with Sevilla.
Romano wrote, “
“Jesús Navas will not retire, he’s ready for new chapter as free agent at 38.
“Navas was not offered new contract by Sevilla despite being legend of the club.
“From 2000 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2024 as Sevilla player.”
Regarded as one of the most successful attacking midfielders in Spanish football, Navas has won 5 Europa League trophies with Sevilla, including 2 Copa Del Rey, one Supercopa de Espana, and one UEFA Super Cup.
He won the 2010 World Cup with Spain’s national team, including the 2012 Euros, and the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
