Just above the pair is Aston Villa and Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, while Uruguay and Real Madrid star Federico Valverde occupies the 17th spot.
The effort of Switzerland and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka also didn’t go unnoticed as he was put in the 16th spot.
Interestingly, Nico Williams of Spain and Athletic Bilbao comes 15th on the top 20 2024 Ballon d’Or ranking, while Nigeria’s forward Ademola Lookman, who plies his trade at club level with Italian side Atalanta is 14th on the log.
Barcelona and Spain’s star Dani Olmo, who was donning the colors of RB Leipzig last season, hugged the 13th position behind Germany’s Florian Wirtz, who is contracted to Bayer Leverkusen.
Phil Foden Surprisingly Claimed A Spot Outside The Top 10
Phil Foden couldn’t sneak into the top 10 as the England and Manchester City man had to be content with his placement on the rankings (11th).
Bayern Munich’s arrowhead Harry Kane sits at the basement of the top 10, with the Englishman being placed below retired German midfielder Toni Kross, who last played for Real Madrid before calling time on his career in July 2024.
Kopa Trophy winner Lamine Yamal, who represents Barcelona and Spain is 8th on the list, while Inter Milan and Argentina’s Lautaro Martinez is present in the 7th spot.
In 6th, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe was recognized, having delineated his qualities for Barcelona and France between 2023 and 24.
Erling Haaland Finishes Outside The Podium
Norwegian maxman Erling Haaland, who plays for Manchester City sits 5th behind veteran defender Dani Carvajal, who represents Real Madrid and Spain.
On the podium, Jude Bellingham secured the 3rd spot on the 2024 Ballon d’Or top 20 ranking, while teammate Vinicius Jr got enough votes to get the runner-up spot (2nd).
The man who rules this list stacked with magnificent names is Rodri, as the Spaniard was voted the 2024 Ballon d’Or award winner by journalists.
Rodri’s Injury?
The Spaniard is currently nursing a cruciate ligament injury which he sustained in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on September 22, 2024.
Rodri was withdrawn in the 21st minute for Mateo Kovacic due to the knock after a challenge involving him and Gunners midfielder Thomas Partey.
Rodri has been ruled out for the season due to the injury, having made only 3 appearances this campaign, scoring no goal and providing no assists in all competitions.
