The 2024-25 UEFA Champions League and Europa League Play-off draws have been confirmed, with teams learning their opponent for the Europe-wide football clubs competitions.
Notably, the 2024-25 Champions League edition will be the maiden edition of the revamped competition that will feature 36 teams instead of 32 as was the case with the old format.
A league phase will replace the old group stage format, with each team guaranteed at least 10 games in the initial phase. The minimum 10 fixtures will be equally split into five home and five away games.
Teams finishing in the top eight of the league after the home and away fixtures qualify automatically for the round of 16, while teams from 9th to 24th are scheduled for a two-legged playoff to determine who fills the remaining eight slots in the round of 16.
Other things to note in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League
Serie A were tipped to seal a sixth Champions League spot, according to Football Italia. However, the Italian top-flight will only field five teams in the competition with Bologna, joining, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta in the competition.
Also, due to the rescheduled UEFA Champions League fixtures, domestic FA’s have been forced to reschedule domestic club competitions such as the FA Cup and EFL Cup. This means next season football fans should expect slight alterations
